Stan Stokes. The Nieuport is a hybrid of a monoplane and biplane with its large upper wing and a much smaller lower wing, resulting in a stronger airplane than the early monoplanes. Stan Stokes. Arguably the best "brother" team of fighter aces was Manfred and Lothar von Richthofen, with 120 WWI aerial victories between them. Top WWI ace Manfred, who became known as "The Red Baron" because the Richtofen family was minor nobility and he painted his airplane bright red, achieved 80 victories. Though its engine was considered a little underpowered, the Dr.I achieved a level of maneuverability that prompted Manfred von Richthofen to write of its qualities, "Climbs like an ape, and as agile as the devil." 19"x 13" print is signed by the artist.
