This plastic kit features the 78th Fighter Group's most colorful P-51D, the Big Beautiful Doll, assigned to Lt. Col. John D. Landers. The Lightning was designed in 1937 and the first flew on January 27, 1939. It was the P-38F that saw wide-ranging combat use, especially in North Africa and the Pacific theater. P-38Gs incorporated Allison F-10 engines rated at 1150hp each and could carry 4,000-lbs of ordinance on the inboard pylons. The P-38H is considered the last of the early Lightnings and utilized the more powerful 1240hp F-15 engines.
