Great Planes Vol.
1:
B-29 Superfortress
- VHS Video
"Super bomber" - the aircraft first
making headlines as the raids on Japan were taking
place, and as one of the heaviest and fastest bombers,
it was indeed a Superfortress. See the development
and the first flights of the B-29. Outstanding examples
of nose art and air-to-air photography with P-51s
as air cover. Witness the incendiary raids over
Japan that were more devastating than the atom bombs
dropped by the Enola Gay and Bock's Car which ended
the war. The B-29 would be used after the war for
atomic testing and also saw service in Korea (nose
art reappears). Also see development flights on
in-air refueling and the X1 and X2 tests with the
B-29 as mother ship. Color and B&W, 60 minutes. |

Great Planes Vol.
2:
F-111 Aardvark
- VHS Video
The F-111 is unique and so is its story.
Born from the Tactical Fighter Experimental Program
(TFX), caught in McNamara's multi-service fighter
concept, the Aardvark, despite being an economic
catastrophe and one of the most complex aircraft
mechanical designs ever created, would become the
world's first combat aircraft to use variable-sweep
wings. Film shows the development of the F-111 and
puts you in the cockpit during the air war over
Vietnam and during the 1986 strike mission over
Libya. Color and B&W footage, approx. 60 minutes. |

Great Planes Vol. 3:
F-14 Tomcat - VHS Video
Grumman, from its involvement with F-111B,
would be the winner in the VFX (Navy Fighter Experimental),
and would produce the ultimate fighter - the F-14
Tomcat. See the first flights of model 303 and dramatic
test footage. Experience the F-14's ability to track
24 targets simultaneously and attack six different
targets at once. Come aboard the aircraft carrier
with VF1 and VF2 and you're in the cockpit at launch
and landing. Color and B&W, approx. 60 minutes. |

Great Planes Vol. 4:
B-36 Peacemaker
- VHS Video
See this giant, the largest airplane ever to reach
full production status, from the first flight of the
XB-36 to the all jet-powered YB-60, including the
development of the parasite fighter/reconnaissance
using the XF-85 Goblin jet and finally the RF-84F.
Although never seeing military wartime action, the
B-36 served well during the early Cold War era. Approximately
60 min. |

Great Planes Vol. 5:
XB-70 Valkyrie - VHS Video
From rollout and delivery of XB-70A-1, to placement
in its final home at the U.S. Air Force Museum, this
video presents the monstrous but beautiful XB-70.
Ride along in the chase plane and see the problems
with the first flights and the tragic mid-air collision
of XB-70-A2. But there is success, too, as a half-million
pound aircraft exceeds three times the speed of sound!
It's a fabulous look at a remarkable feat of engineering.
Color and B&W, approx. 60 min. |

Great Planes Vol. 6:
F-16 Fighting Falcon - VHS Video
From the need for a "dog fight" aircraft,
the USAF launched the Lightweight Fighter project,
which resulted in the F-16. This film highlights the
capabilities of the F-16, even showing developmental
test beds such as the direct-force control canard
fins on one F-16 and the delta wings on another. Today's
production F-16 could be the most cost effective fighter
in the world, having evolved into an all-weather,
multi-role aircraft that performs, as the film shows,
better than any other aircraft. Color and B&W,
approximately 60 minutes. |

Great Planes Vol. 7:
B-24 Liberator -
VHS Video
From their background with flying boats, Consolidated
Aircraft Company designed the Liberator bomber. From
its two distinct large vertical stabilizers, tricycle
landing gear and high lift Davis wing, the Liberator
would be made in greater numbers than the more popular
B-17. Operational in all theaters of the war and in
other roles than a bomber (naval reconnaissance, anti-submarine
warfare and as transports), the B-24 performed well
in every capacity. Video traces the development of
the B-24 and shows operations including low-level
raids on Ploesti. Also includes excellent air-to-air
photography and great examples of nose art. B&W
and color, 60 minutes. |

Great Planes Vol.
8:
B-17 Flying Fortress
- VHS Video
Trace the beginning of the B-17 from the
B-9, B-10, XB-15 and Boeing's Clipper, which lead
up to the model 299, which ultimately became B-17.
See the flight of 299 and all the various models
through B-17G. Fly along with WWII crews in all
theaters - deep into Germany and on missions in
the South Pacific. Experience the power of the B-17,
and marvel at its ability to return to base despite
substantial battle damage. Also includes post-war
footage. B&W and color, 60 minutes. |

Great Planes Vol. 9:
B-52 Stratofortress - VHS Video
Trace the development of the B-52 with this
film featuring the B-45, B-48, XB-47, B-46, YB-60
and the jet-powered flying wing. See the first flight
of YB-52 and other early variants, and trace developments
up to the shorter tail and turbo fan powered H, the
last production version. Watch the low-level flight
of an H that, despite the loss of most of its vertical
fin and rudder on a research flight, landed safely.
Also includes combat footage. Color and B&W, approximately
60 minutes. |

$24.95 |
Great Planes Vol. 10:
P-38 Lightning - VHS Video
"Interceptor," a new name for a fighter
of high speed, capable of climbing to altitude in
the shortest time. From this description, the XP-38
was constructed. See the taxi test and the first flight
of XP-38 Model 22, the piggyback for instructor pilot
and many of the different versions of the P-38. Serving
in many theaters of the war, the Lightning was proving
itself in many different roles - escort, photo reconnaissance
and ground attack. Meet the aces who flew the Lightning
and ride along with them, viewing dramatic footage
from plane-mounted cameras filming low-level missions.
The Lightning was the primary fighter of both the
Mediterranean and the Pacific, and shot down more
Japanese aircraft than any other plane. Includes outstanding
color footage of different paint schemes. Color and
B&W, approx. 60 minutes. |

Great Planes Vol. 11:
DC-3/C-47 Dakota - VHS Video
The C-47 version of the DC-3 served in WWII
as a cargo plane, personnel carrier, parachute plane
and glider tow plane - and was even still in use during
the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. See the camouflaged,
heavily-armed attack plane Puff the Magic Dragon and
ride along in its cockpit on missions. See also the
conversion of the DC-3 to the C-47 and again recently
back to the DC-3 in air-to-air photography of Australia
Airlines' Shangri La, rebuilt in 1988. Color and B&W,
approx. 60 minutes. |

Great Planes Vol. 12:
F-86 Sabre Jet - VHS Video
In Korea, despite the appearance of the MiG-15
jet fighter, the F-86 made an impact and changed the
air war over Korea. The pilots themselves must be
given much of the credit for kill ratios of ten to
one over the MiG-15. The performance of both aircraft
matched closely but thanks to the pilots, the Sabres
dominated the MiG-15s. Ride in the cockpit during
the air action of MiG alley. See the many roles the
Sabre performed - interdiction, bombing, and the tests
of the first Sidewinder air-to-air guided missiles.
Great aerial views of different models and configurations.
Color and B&W, 60 minutes. |

Great Planes Vol. 13:
AV-8 Harrier - VHS Video
See the early attempts at V/STOL (Vertical/Short
Take Off and Landing) aircraft with the XFY-1, X-13,
the Flying Bedstead and many more failures. The Harrier,
a long time in concept, is now a winner used by the
British, with the AV-8B equally successful with the
USMC. Ride along in the cockpit and learn what it's
like to fly this unique fighter. Color and B&W,
approximately 60 minutes. |
