Spitfire & Stuka
- DVD
Thunderbirds of WWII
Spitfire. Loaded with interviews and unique footage,
much in color, this program follows the development
of the Spitfire from the drawing board of Reginald
Mitchell, known for his seaplane racers, to testing
and on to the war in Europe. There's also footage
of the Battle of Britain, the European theater and
more. Stuka. Loaded with interviews and unique footage,
much in color, the Ju 87 Stuka dive bomber "whistled"
as it dove at 300 mph. Despite its early success against
Poland and France, the Stuka failed in the Battle
of Britain and was withdrawn from that offensive.
Ultimately it continued to serve, and you'll see its
achievements here. 102 total minutes, B&W and
color. |

Spitfire: The First of
the Few - VHS Video
This is the story of R.J. Mitchell, designer of the
Spitfire, the fighter that was to play such a vital
role in frustrating Hitler's plans to invade England.
David Niven, who plays a flier from WWI who works
as a test pilot, and later as a squadron leader during
the famous Battle of Britain, was detached from service
to appear in Spitfire. His performance is one of the
best in the film. |

Air Wars - DVD
Fighter Aircraft of World War Two. This 2-disc set
revisits the glory of four great warplanes that battled
in WWII. For the Allies, the Spitfire fought throughout
the war while the Hurricane swooped to dispatch over
two-thirds of all enemy aircraft destroyed in the
Battle of Britain. On the German side, the Bf 109
fought on all fronts, downing twice as many aircraft
as any other fighter plane in history while the Fw
190 proved superior over RAF aircraft. Over three
hours in length. |
